2004-07-28 - 10:18 a.m. Quote for the day: "The road to a friend's house is never long." -Danish proverb Sticky sweet It’s hot, my back keeps aching, and I am sticky all over yet I don’t mind. I am holding tightly to a board that is covered in honey, as my husband try’s to find the right instrument to scrap the bee’s wax and now dripping honey into our bucket to be strained. We have harvested our largest hive. One more smaller one to do for this year, the last hive too small for this year. We have yet to find the wonder tool to do this with and my husband finds a metal cookie cutter that is working out great so far. The honey this year does not have the twang to it from the Mustang grapes at our last ranch. This is lighter in color and sweeter. In fact though the other honey had a distinguish twang to it I much prefer this new honey. I am just worried about it being to thin, maybe its just the heat, but time will tell as it cooler being inside our house. We of course made a mess with it yesterday, the bucket that we had it in broke up at the bottom and we had to fix it with getting honey all over the floor. Looks like we almost got ¾ of the bucket full after this morning. My husband wrapped around a heating pad with his belt around the bucket to melt down more of the honey. Every ounce counts. This morning I took a teaspoon of honey with my tea…yum…this is going to be so good for my allergies as I get used to the pollen around here now. Just one teaspoon a day should do it. We looked at jars yesterday that we can give to friends and neighbors. The jars kept getting smaller as we decided hahaha. We have two people at his work that want 15 pounds of it, its not going to happen. I want this as give away’s for Xmas. Later that day I walked over to the chicken coop to get my eggs for the evening and went passed the hive and thought OH MY GOSH what I am doing!!!! Here I was still covered in Honey on my legs a bit and my hair and I am walking passed the hive..dumb…. I spent the day helping hubbie with the hives, and then I finished organizing my pantry and pans. I am trying to get things out of the old house to make room for my parents and throw away stuff I don’t need. Today I am going to clean out this fridge in the house then go grocery shopping. I did my list last night a long with getting my coupons which sadly enough is not that many but every penny helps. I sure do hope the little farmers market stand is open today cause I have to get potatoes and I hate the ones at the market they are always rotten. Tonight we are suppose to have dinner in San Antonio with friends from Austin should be nice I haven’t seen them in a long time. Not sure if I listed this down but a few weeks ago we went to a Garden center that was going out of business on that location. We got fruit tree’s for $6.50, rose bushes for $2.00, rosemary for $1.00, honey suckle etc. Wished we could have gotten more fruit tree’s but they didn’t have that much variety and they didn’t look that good by the time we got there. Anyways I started putting all the place to see if they would like it and one of them a First prize rose plants started blooming already plus the honey suckle is giving out blooms too. I really need to get out there and plant them now. We planned out our garden the other day and I am suppose to be watering the field to get it softer so our tiller can go through it. I think I forgot yesterday so don’t tell the hubby if you know him. Shhhhhhhh One of my family members (I wont mention names) went hysterical yesterday when I told her we were going to have another party. Another one! IN this heat! Are you crazy! Its not like I am forcing them to help me or to even come…..blink, blink, we like to entertain and they better get used to it. We are celebrating our 16yr anniversary and my sons birthday same time. Why not? Just because my family is tired of party’s doesn’t mean we don’t have friends to invite instead hahaha… sheshhh family..cant live with them cant throw them away…you know Dial up not so bad - Bee Condo
